I'VE SEEN THE FUTURE, AND IT'S NOT GINGER...
THURSDAY 27th MARCH 2008

Was that Wes Brown in an England shirt last night?

Do we have an entire defensive line out injured? Is Capello on acid, or a bung? Because I'm struggling for any other justifiable explanation as to why the psuedo-Ginga was running around on the big screen last night?

This is a man who struggles to get a game for Man United reserves, a man who scores a goal against Liverpool with his back .. yet a man thrust into the international limelight.

I mean, who's called Wes these days for Christ's sake?

It was reassuring to see our new dawn of English football morph into the old dawn last night, and the one before that. All we need is a recall for Phil Neville and the renaissance is complete.

Maybe I'm being harsh, but I've had more entertaining nights hand-crafting wedding invitations - and I don't even include the adding of the glitter in that statement.

Back to Wes though, and there was a salient comment made down the boozer when someone claimed he was the "most overrated footballer to have worn an England shirt" .. (up until being replaced by Glen Johnson, anyway.)

"No," came the reply, " .. a player can only really be overrated if he was rated in the first place, and have you ever heard someone come out with the line 'that Wes Brown is a quality player'?"

Nope, thought not...
