CITY SLICKERS LOOK TO YOUTH...
SATURDAY 30th AUGUST 2008

Whoever said you need experience to get by in Europe has obviously never watched Manchester City play.

Desperate for a goal to save their rapidly-crumbling UEFA Cup dreams last night at Danish minnows Midtjylland, City gambled big-time by hauling off supposed Brazilian ace Jo and slapping Ched Evans and Daniel Sturridge into the fray as an untried frontline pairing.

That’s former Chester City man Evans (four appearances, no goals) and trainee Sturridge (three career goals and only nine appearances) to you and I. The result, some long overdue attacking football and a Euro escape that would have been déjà vu to Didi Hamann following his role in the 2005 Champions League finale against AC Milan.

Whether the Blue Mooners will be quite so fortunate in the next round remains to be seen though.
