"I
am not a number, I'm a free man," bellowed the
Prisoner. Greedy sod, he should have been grateful,
because Coventry City striker Paul Williams is remembered
in the tomes of football folly by just a solitary letter.
Yes, one blessed letter.

RON
TUG OF WAR CONTINUES...
SUNDAY
6th JULY 2008 |
 |
 |
 |
| As
we approach another week of Ronaldo v Manchester
United wrestling, opinion seems split as
to who is holding the upper hand. |
Real Madrid seem content
on waving large wads of cash as a solution,
but it seems there is something deeper
and much more dangerous to be considered
- principles.
Ah - the dreaded 'p'-word.
While Alex Ferguson has claimed he is
happy to let Ron "rot on the bench"
.. (there must be a woodworm treatment
for that, surely?), all manner of footy
experts are coming out to join the debate.
Marc Schroder, CEO of MHL Support, who
are advisors to professional football
clubs, has come out aghast at the suggestion
that the solution is clear-cut:
“People are saying that Ronaldo
should just walk, and that there is nothing
Manchester United can do about it. Nonsense!
I don’t know where people would
get that impression from. If someone walked
out on a job in any other field, they
would expect repercussions.
In contrast though, if Ferguson did insist
on a kind of human-to-wood osmosing exercise,
Ron wins his own get-out clause, being
able to walk out if he appears in less
than 10% of official matches.
“The club is going to be fully aware
of those rules and having made its stance
so clear, is unlikely to shoot itself
in the foot", Marc continues.
Maybe I can step in here as an independent
advisor .. take the £60million,
and don't look back. There .. simple.
