"I
am not a number, I'm a free man," bellowed the
Prisoner. Greedy sod, he should have been grateful,
because Coventry City striker Paul Williams is remembered
in the tomes of football folly by just a solitary letter.
Yes, one blessed letter.

THUMPING
GOOD SEASON FINALE...

Whoever
said that modern football was all prawn
sandwiches and corporate hospitality?
Well I have found myself
gently reassured that the game is still
a breeding ground for sports degenerates
after reading about a couple of events
this weekend.
There's the Mansfield Town fan who chinned
the club's owner Keith Haslam on Saturday
after the club's disastrous 1-0 home defeat
to Rotherham United, which almost certainly
ends their long tenure in league football.
Then you've got Patrice Evra and the handbags
incident that did little for the Premier
League's reputation, not that of the footballer
... I mean, fight like a man, not with
your tongue stuck resembling Daisy the
cow.
But, as in most things, you've got to
hand it to the Yanks to really taking
it to extremes. Two kids, who squabbled
over a jersey that David Beckham threw
into the crowd at a recent LA Galaxy game,
are now engaged in an expensive legal
battle after the father of Yoshika Kerr
(humorously named Eric Kerr << talking
about mixing rude surname metaphors) brought
his attorney in to get the shirt back.
Incredible, yes. Surprising, probably
not, but it has put a smile back on my
face. Just a shame the same can't be said
for that female Chelsea steward who is
still hobbling around like Albert Steptoe.
