"I
am not a number, I'm a free man," bellowed the
Prisoner. Greedy sod, he should have been grateful,
because Coventry City striker Paul Williams is remembered
in the tomes of football folly by just a solitary letter.
Yes, one blessed letter.

OPEN
GOAL PRESENTS...FRANK SINCLAIR DAY!
FRIDAY
27th JUNE 2008 |
 |
 |
 |
It's Frank Sinclair
Day on Open Goal, or should that be 'Own
Goal'?!
Every now and again a player comes along
to define a state of mind at a football
club. Leicester City had climbed to join
the Premiership elite, but funded on Barings
Bank shares and a fruity MBNA-esque credit
agreement, the reality was that the Filbert
Street outfit were thumbing a lift on
the highway of hopelessness.
Sinclair epitomised the troubles ahead
with a disastrous run of form at the start
of the 2000/01 season that saw him singlehandedly
deny the Foxes three points by scoring
own goals in injury-time against Arsenal
and Chelsea in consecutive weeks.
He then went on to embarrass himself again
the following season at Middlesbrough
with a 35-yard howler that gifted the
Riverside club all three points.
So on the day that Sinclair signs for
Lincoln City, we salute the 36-year-old.
(And it would only be fair to state, that
in his 18-year professional career, Frank
has scored 19 times at the right end.)
So this page and our subsequent Video
of the Day is just a small dothing of
the proverbial cap to the great man. A
prolific Premiership player, a silverware
winner, an all-round nice guy, yes. But
ultimately, an own-goal specialist.
Check out our Video
of the Day, for Frank at his deadliest.
