The
Barclaycard press release tells us the
results were awarded by a panel. That’s
the easiest job since beer tasters were
invented; picking Ron as March’s
top man was the biggest foregone conclusion
since Steve McLaren’s dismissal
after ‘Umbrella-gate’.
You only have to flick through United’s
matchday programme or club magazine to
see how much of an impact he’s had.
90% of their match reports see him winning
the man of the match award.
Predictable maybe, but it’s not
as if the Red Devils are a one-man team;
far from it. Yet
27 goals and the ability to leave the
best defenders on their arse (isn’t
it a shame Cashley’s not playing
today?) is no mean feat. Put simply, he
has performed with a consistency no-one
has ever seen before.
Interestingly, at the age of just 22 Ronaldo
finds himself eighth in FourFourTwo’s
100 Best foreigners of all time. He has
a way to go to emulate some peers, like
16th-placed George Robledo, for example
(?), but for impact and consistency over
a season Ron is streets ahead of anyone
in Premiership history.
Even Jon Stead…
