"I
am not a number, I'm a free man," bellowed the
Prisoner. Greedy sod, he should have been grateful,
because Coventry City striker Paul Williams is remembered
in the tomes of football folly by just a solitary letter.
Yes, one blessed letter.

THRILL
OF THE LOCAL DERBY...
SATURDAY
19th JULY 2008 |
 |
 |
 |
| The
award from the most bizarre pre-season
friendly so far goes to Blue Square Premier
(that's Conference to me and you) side
Crawley Town, who today embark on a 1,200
mile round trip to Scottish Division One
side Ross County.
There's not a lot to link the Sussex outfit
with their Highland counterparts, except
maybe some loose principles over filing
paperwork, and a couple of Scottish managers.
One probable saving grace is that Gatwick
airport is within the boundaries of Crawley,
so at least the prospect of a 20-hour
return coach journey has been eliminated.
There are some other belters to look out
for today, including Arsenal's annual
goal spree at Barnet, Man United taking
on the Kaiser Chiefs (I thought there
were only five of them .. seems a bit
unfair?), Bradford Park Avenue fighting
for local price against Bradford City,
and Bedford Town looking for a cricket
score against hapless Luton Town, who
continue preparations for the ultimate,
unequivocal, unparalleled, unrivaled,
and totally copyrighted 'season from hell'.
Enjoy your football, folks.
