"I
am not a number, I'm a free man," bellowed the
Prisoner. Greedy sod, he should have been grateful,
because Coventry City striker Paul Williams is remembered
in the tomes of football folly by just a solitary letter.
Yes, one blessed letter.
NEW
SEASON COMES KNOCKING... SUNDAY
27th JULY 2008
Your
resident diarist is hungover and feeling
rough today, so rather than mumble through
a load of incoherent and pretty mindnumbing
nonsense that will be as painful for you
to read as it is for me to write, I will
leave you solely with the following thought:
where has the summer gone?
Last time I checked it was May. I waved
goodbye to Richard Keys and Andy Gray gratefully
- they had served me well over the course
of the season, but man, was I fed up of
football? Oh aye.
The Euros came and went without too much
regard, and in recent weeks I've ventured
into excessive cricket watching and even
a bit of Le Tour.
But despite all of that,
can it really be only two weeks until it
all kicks off again? Who's idea was this?
I'm woefully under-prepared. I'm still watching
Masters Football on Sky and doing the Australian
football pools for pity's sake ...
