The last minute rush to oxygenate clubs by grabbing the last breaths of fresh air through the transfer window always leaves me to ponder whether our Premier League managers have in their possession a diary.

Having seen his side slump to a 06/07-style defeat at Arsenal, Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan lauded the potential of signing four new players by the time the window slams shut on Monday night.

Great, but has he and others not had the past few months to sort out these deals? What has he been doing exactly? Apart from negotiating the release of a number of decent players.
