"I
am not a number, I'm a free man," bellowed the
Prisoner. Greedy sod, he should have been grateful,
because Coventry City striker Paul Williams is remembered
in the tomes of football folly by just a solitary letter.
Yes, one blessed letter.

TESTING
TIMES FOR RANGERS...
SUNDAY
27th APRIL 2008 |

Today’s
Glasgow derby completes an impressive weekend
of title-deciding tomfoolery either side of
the Scottish border.

Yesterday
it was Chelsea’s turn to try and
turn the top of the table on its head
with a win over United, while today Celtic
will be attempting to derail Rangers’
season in a huge local derby for both
sides.
I wonder just how much of an effect the
week’s European exertions will have
had on both United and Rangers. I was
shagged just watching their games! (Much
like this poor sod to the right!)
United have a huge squad and can probably
cope with such demands – even if
they did chase the ball for much of the
night on Wednesday - but Rangers could
struggle, given the number of injuries
and suspensions they’ve endured
in the last few weeks.
And if Rangers lose today, what effect
will that have on their European campaign
and beyond? Even a defeat for United wouldn’t
be enough to derail their season. They
have two winnable games left to play,
even if they’re without a win against
West Ham in three attempts. That, and
they have Darren Fletcher back in the
ranks.
Yet a Rangers defeat could derail their
whole season. Imagine the ramifications
of losing today, and the knock-on effect
that would have on their trip to Florence
in mid-week. A defeat to Fiorentina -
not beyond the realms of possibility –
could turn a season of promise into one
of despair.
Tough at the top, huh…
