"I
am not a number, I'm a free man," bellowed the
Prisoner. Greedy sod, he should have been grateful,
because Coventry City striker Paul Williams is remembered
in the tomes of football folly by just a solitary letter.
Yes, one blessed letter.

OF SEASON GOAL FRENZY POSTPONED...
FRIDAY

I was delighted
to see that the sum total of highlights in the
Rangers v Fiorentina match last night comprised
of Jean-Claude Darcheville scuffing a shot into
the arms of Sebastien Frey, Macho Novo doing an
excellent impression of a three-point conversion
in rugby, and Adrian Mutu sniffing around without
intent .. and it's not like he could say that
when he was at Chelsea.
With
the missus out with her mates talking
about bikini lines and netball, no doubt
.. or whatever these modern city women
discuss together .. cake mixtures or something,
I dunno .. I considered for as long as
it took the Sky Plus box to jam on ITV4
that I may envelop myself in some culture
from North of the border, and for a change
I don't mean a can of Tennants down the
local shopping parade with Whisky Wayne.
But within three minutes
I was struck by two things. One, insane
boredom, and two, bloody Jim Beglin again.
He gets around a bit doesn't he? Not only
is he multi-grounded (he being Clive 'tedious'
Tyldesley's right-hand man at Anfield
on Tuesday), but he is now switching competitions
'n' all.
So anyway, I avoided a predictable goalless
draw, and am much the better person for
it.
I say that now, but I'll be there with
the rest of them getting in first orders
to watch what should prove to be an equally
mind-numbing potential title-defining
mash-up/slap-down between Chelski and
Man United tomorrow lunchtime.
Luckily Setanta are showing Weymouth
versus Altrincham in the evening. Salvation
at last.
