"I
am not a number, I'm a free man," bellowed the
Prisoner. Greedy sod, he should have been grateful,
because Coventry City striker Paul Williams is remembered
in the tomes of football folly by just a solitary letter.
Yes, one blessed letter.

DAGGERS
DRAWN FOR CARLING CUP...
FRIDAY
13th JUNE 2008 |
 |
 |
 |
| It's a day for
football humblings. No, I'm not talking
about Italy's potential Euro exit at the
hands of their old friends Romania, but
the dawning realisation of a band of former
Premier League elitists that they are well
and truly now back with the rabble. |
Yes,
just when you thought that the only thing
connected with the word 'domestic' over
the next few weeks would be traipsing
around MFI looking for a new bathroom
suite, the Carling Cup comes to your rescue,
with the 1st Round draw pulled recklessly
from an old hat this morning.
And there are some beauties in there,
too. Reading have switched from top division
dalliance to bumming around against bottom
division sides as they travel to the glamorous
surrounds of the Glyn Hopkin Stadium,
home of Dagenham & Redbridge, on August
12th. Result!
For our other former big boys, Derby County
host League Two layabouts Lincoln City.
Wowzers!
While the true reality of Birmingham City's
lot will hit home when they venture to
those wiley old sods at Wycombe Wanderers.
Champagne!
Interestingly, no two Championship sides
have been drawn against one another, so
if the giantkilling notions of last season's
FA Cup are to be repeated in next year's
Carling Cup, Liverpool had better prepare
for a trip to Aldershot or maybe Exeter
in future rounds.
