"I am not a number, I'm a free man," bellowed the Prisoner. Greedy sod, he should have been grateful, because Coventry City striker Paul Williams is remembered in the tomes of football folly by just a solitary letter. Yes, one blessed letter.

ARE YOU SURE THAT WAS ONLY 10 MONTHS?
TUESDAY 27th MAY 2008
And that was that. Rochdale v Stockport - a fitting finale to a pretty entertaining season.

It really is over, folks. Finished. Fini. Done. End of.

A season that started with points deductions, Mourinho mouthing off at United's limited silverwave prospects, and Steve McClaren, the bright young hopeful in charge of our all-conquering Three Lions.

A campaign that started with a few onlookers actually rating Derby's chances of staying up under highly-rated battler Billy Davies, while the rolecall of Premier League managers elsewhere included such names as Jol, Sanchez, Hutchings, Lee, Allardyce and Eriksson.

And get this, Liverpool actually thought they wouldn't finish 4th. Priceless.

They say a year's a long time in football. Well, it's a sodding lifetime if you're Leicester City's manager. Including caretakers, the Foxes clocked up their 11th man giving team orders since 2006 on their way out of the Championship, while at the other end of the table, Bristol City came agonisingly close to becoming the equivalent of the statistician's prized nose hanky having almost secured promotion to the Premier League with a hard-hitting, no nonsense, double-hard bastard goal difference of +1.

Further down the ladder, Swansea swaggered, Forest fought back, and in securing promotion to League One, MK Dons (Franchise FC) remain one of the most despised clubs on the planet.

It has been a rollercoaster ride - just ask any Leeds fan - and a part of me says, 'thank fuck that's over with'.

Of course, a larger part of me is hunting out those mindnumbingly pointless pre-season fixtures already, whilst pebble-dashing my club's message board with various complaints over why we went a whole weeknd without signing any new players. The cheek of it.
